A WILDERNESS ADVENTURE IN THE ADIRONDACKS

September 4, 2004 - September 7, 2004

Meet Sam, Sami & Simba

This adirondack vacation rental was definately different - a yurt?
Sami, Sam & Simba arrived in the Adirondacks for a relaxing vacation.

Not quite the same as a hotel accommodation, but good luck trying to find a hotel in the wilderness.  It was a long car ride here, it was time to unpack and relax.
Rachel & Taryn were also around to help check Sami & Sam into their Adirondack accommodation.

We thought yurt rentals were a neat idea.
Sami seemed pleased with Crow's Nest Yurt and her wilderness trip.

Dan is definately proud of his outhouse designs and the outhouse pictures are proudly displayed on our webpages.  The whole group was now accounted for, the unloading chores were done.

I LIKE IT!!!!
Sami seemed immediately relaxed upon her arrival to Back To Basics.

Simba enjoyed the simple freedom of Back To Basics.  Sami was to soon realize that this would be a stress free vacation.
(Left) Simba enjoyed the new found freedom of the Adirondacks. (Right) Sami was a little worried about Simba and called for him.

Dan tries to drive them all crazy, but everyone learns quickly to give it right back.  NEW FOUND GLORY FOR SIMBA!!!
(Left) Sami didn't feed into Dan at all, she was going to stand her ground.
(Right) Simba decided on playing with the kids.

Sami, Sam, & Simba had driven a long distance from home to spend the weekend in the Adirondacks.
The first evening at Crow's Nest, Sam & Sami settled in for a relaxing evening. They were tired from the day's drive.

It was time for something different, maybe some R&R.
Sam told us about the daily routines of home, and was here to relax, but couldn't quite get there yet. He stood the whole evening. Tommorrow would be a different day.

Bring it on - I'm ready!!!  As Sam headed out the calm waters were a refreshing start to the day.
The following day was to bring a canoe trip at Pine Lake in the Southern Adirondacks. Sam wished to paddle alone. Sami wasn't to keen on the canoeing. Bruce and his son Kevin also decided on taking the other canoe out for the day.

A quiet place and moment.  Now here's a Jeep picture!
(Left) Sam enjoyed his canoe trip through the North end of Pine Lake.
(Right) Following everyone's arrival back it was time to pack everyone into the Jeep Wrangler for the trip home.

Definately some late night dining!  Dan & I learned alot about Sam & Sami's society and culture during their visit.
What would the evening bring? Everyone decided on a group BBQ at the main house? Sami cooked an excellent rice dish (still can't remember the name), Bruce prepared burgers, and we prepared lasagne.

The days local events went well and everyone was pleased with their day.
It was time for everyone to kick back and relax from the day's events.

Dan & I are more than pleased to add Sam & Sami to our Back To Basics guestbook.  Again we had the privilage to add more guests to our circle of friends.
The group decided on a bon fire night and some late night music from Bruce.

This scenic picture was taken North of Back To Basics on Route 10.
The next morning, Sam, decided he wanted more. The plan was Good Luck Lake.

Sounded like a simple plan, but little did we know the beaver had been busy.  Sam prior to launching the canoe. The destination was Good Luck Lake in the Southern Adirondacks.
The plan was: Sam would arrive at Good Luck Lake by canoe, and the rest of us would hike in.

The waters were crystal clear and Sam looked forward to his paddling trip.
Sam & the canoe were more than ready for the excursion.

Time to take off!!!!  This was definately going to be a discovery channel.
After Sam departed from the launch, the rest of us headed up the trail.

Meet you there!!!
Sam was on his way!!!

What a dog treat!!!!  No matter what dog breed, they all love it!
Simba found the muddy trail great. Dogs will be dogs!

The mountain view was spectacular  Mountains on one side and the Adirondack Pines on the other - how perfect
We arrived at Good Luck Lake by foot, but where was Sam?

This was to be the travel destination, but no sign of Sam?
As we waited we took in the autumn fall foliage beginning to appear.
After waiting a short while, Sam did not arrive at the destination. The group headed back down the trail to find his whereabouts.

While the girls headed back to camp, Dan & Sam headed out to located Good Luck Lake.  Sam had attempted to cross a few of the beaver dams, but had turned back after continuing to reach more. This time they were going through.
We arrived back at the trailhead to find Sam along side the cars. The beavers had built several dams in route, and the map was now in disarray. Sam had made the wise decision to head back. He did have a few cold ones to keep him company until the rest of the group returned.

Just before sunset heading into Good Luck Lake.  A serene scene.
Dan wasn't going to let Sam not experience his travel destination. Dan was familiar with the territory and took Sam into Good Luck Lake at sunset.

THE FINAL DESTINATION!
A peaceful place for a wilderness experience.

"Sami from New Jersey & Simba (Sami's Son--)

We had so great time with Kim, Dan, Pop & Kim's kids that we do not even had time to write anything. We were so tired in the end of the day and in the night, we also dreamed about here. Simba had a great time here to. I think he is thinking that we are going to live here from now. I have to come here soon and stay again. Thanks for everything. ----"

"Sam - from Mt. Laurel, NJ

An awesome camp & a great host-hostess all combined into one. Dan was great and to was Kim, the kids. Simba and Pop hit great too. Won't forget the canoeing over beaver dams. Dan, next time we will do Owl's nesting, will hunt game and cook it."
