Our Remote Camp in the Adirondack Mountains
Camps & Yurts
How Back To Basics Came To Be
![]() Yes, this is what we purchased in 2001 - "Poverty Ridge". We believed it had potential and solitude. Needless to say, the previous owners did not respect the beauty of the land, we have worked many days and nights restoring the remote hunting camp on top of Bleecker Mountain.
![]() In 2001, we added additions to the original structure to make it home sweet home. The original hunting camp still stands in the center the house
In 2003, we decided that Back To Basics was the plan and began clearing and erecting the decking for two unique Adirondack yurts.
![]() We also finally got our unique remote Adirondack cabin sided. The name that originally stood on our Bleecker Mountain hunting camp was "Poverty Ridge" and this sign, after being updated, still hangs on the front door of our Upstate New York Camp.
In April 2003 we purchased a quaint Adirondack log sided hostel, that is now the Bleecker Bunk for Lake Placid trail thru-hikers. (changed see below)
In May 2003, a small remote cabin at the end of the road went up for sale. This was not in the original Back To Basics plan, but we purchased it anyway and are currently working on it for rental.
The second week in June the Yurts arrived, the tractor trailer could not manage the logging road. Had to hand transfer the yurts to Back to Basics by pick up truck with the neighbors help.
The yurts were erected the weekend of their arrival.
The yurts went up as planned. Our yurt crew was the Bleecker neighbors (Doug and Douglas - Father & Son team) and ourselves.

September 2003, we decided to relocate the Bleecker Bunk to the large fire ring field behind the main house. The first Bleecker Bunk is being converted into an Outdoor wood sauna for your enjoyment. Project completion should be the end of 2004.
![]() October 13, 2003 the final trail cutting from hut-to-hut was completed for your cross-country skiing pleasures.
Lumber has now been ordered for the other large lean-to out back of the main house. This will soon be under construction, and will eventually be where Back To Basics will hold your morning breakfast buffets.
The lumber was also ordered for your next unique accommodation, the Owl's Nest tree house.
Construction will begin this weekend, and your hosts are looking forward to the new arrival.
